The Office of the Public Protector Zambia has officially opened its Northern Region Office in Kasama, Northern Province, in a move aimed at bringing its services closer to the people.
The launch, which took place on Wednesday, 18th March 2026 at the Kasama Provincial Office, was officiated by the outgoing Northern Province Permanent Secretary, Mr. Bernard Mpundu, who emphasized the importance of strengthening accountability, transparency, and good governance in public service delivery.
Speaking during the event, Mr. Mpundu said the establishment of the office demonstrates Governmentβs commitment to improving access to oversight institutions and ensuring that citizens have platforms to seek redress against maladministration.
Chief Administrator of the Office of the Public Protector, Dr. Kebby M. Hakalima, noted that the opening of the Kasama office is part of the institutionβs decentralization programme aimed at enhancing service delivery and accessibility. He added that the Office now has a presence in eight provinces across the country.
Dr. Hakalima further revealed that in 2025 alone, the Office received 5,051 complaints, of which 2,563 were concluded and 2,481 successfully redressed, highlighting the growing demand for the institutionβs services.
The new office is expected to play a key role in receiving and investigating complaints of maladministration in public institutions, as well as promoting accountability and transparency in Northern Province.
